The Melbourne Shuffle

This dance routine was invented by DJ Hess, and DJ Tate Strauss at Sanction Tuesdays in Melbourne Australia as a joke to make fun out of the overly expressive dances performed by the pop artists such as Vanilla Ice, during the acid warehouse party era in the late 80s 90s. By 1992 it had evolved from a clumsy jump style to something more sophisticated in the form of a shuffle that fitted the electronic techno and rave music beats more appropriately. It is now a worldwide dance popular with ravers in the many nightclubs, festivals, and field events. If learning how to do it, itís better to start slow and speed up to the tempo of the music once you are confident with the routine. This is a fairly loose such and so confidence can be achieved by adding your own variation that is comfortable to you. The arm movements can be waved and swung like in hardcore dancing, particularly when the strobe light is going. In fact this dance looks great to one of these. The basic shuffle steps are illustrated below:-
